Learned the Shore
We only imagine a complete nothing before our world
in a mind we know incapable.
But since,
once just earth and water
and plants from the sun and soaked sand,
the mortal pull of the moon,
wondrous shadowed sphere,
energy for motion
communicates waves to the ocean.
Countless large enough to be the peak of the tide,
and tide after tide the broken down plant souls were ghosts on the shore
remembering how the billowing waves taught them to hear;
the air now gave them voices.
And they listened to the ocean’s song from the outside,
learned the shore,
learned to walk away.
