Learned the Shore
We only imagine
the void before our world
in a mind we know incapable.
But since,
once just earth and water,
cells from the sun and soaked sand,
and the mortal pull of the moon,
wondrous shadowed sphere,
provides energy for motion,
communicates waves to the ocean.
Countless large enough
to be the peak of the tide,
and tide after tide
the broken down cell souls
were ghosts on the shore,
remembering how the billowing waves
taught them to hear.
The air now gave them voices,
listened and sang the ocean’s song
from the outside,
learned the shore,
learned to walk away.

A scene of rocky coastline with waves breaking against the rough stones.
